UK, US and Season 2!

As UK sci-fi fans gear up for the premiere of Continuum tonight at 10pm on Syfy UK, there’s much more to look forward to! Syfy in the US has also bought the rights to air Continuum, and it will premiere there starting sometime in early 2013.

Also, for those that haven’t heard yet, Continuum has been renewed for a second season! The writers are already hard at work and there’s word that even those characters who didn’t make it to the end of season 1 will be back. That’s not really a stretch though - it’s a show about time travelers after all. Season 2 will be 13 episodes and is expected to begin airing in May 2013 in Canada. I wouldn’t be surprised if season 2 shows up in the UK and US around the same time too.

Continuum in the UK!

Syfy UK has bought the rights to air Continuum in the UK. The series will premiere on Thursday, September 27th.

Rumours and theories persist that more news will be released at Fan Expo Canada during the Continuum Q&A panel on Saturday. Stay tuned and keep an eye on the @ContinuumFans Twitter account for the most up-to-date info.

New Continuum ARG Code Found

Tyler Cross has been out in the field and filed another report. You’ll find a new code for the Continuum ARG (alternate reality game) in the blog she posted today.

Don’t forget to follow @CrossWords333 and @Liber8Now on Twitter. Those accounts are part of the ARG.

Continuum ARG (Alternate Reality Game)

The people behind Continuum are running an “alternate reality game” alongside the show. If you’re not familiar with ARGs, it is designed to bring you into the Continuum universe. For a good intro to the game, check out this article by argn.com.

The game will center around various online presences (YouTube, Twitter, etc.) of the Liber8 movement and journalism student Tyler Cross, and possibly others in the future. Your part will be to hunt down codes hidden in posts and videos. Currently, the sites I’m aware of that are or may become part of the game are:

Continuum ARG - website

Liber8 - website Twitter YouTube

Tyler Cross - blog Google+ Twitter YouTube

I’m not going to do all of the work for you, but you can find the first 2 codes in Tyler’s blog entry for May 24th and by checking the descriptions of the videos that Liber8 has posted on YouTube. Enjoy the game, and good hunting!

PS: I don’t know whether Tyler Cross is her real name or if she is actually a journalism student in real life. I’ll be continuing under the assumption that she is an actress hired to play the part for the ARG though.

Liber8 - Are They Really An Enemy?

So who is this “terrorist” organization that Kiera is fighting? Is their purpose as terrible as their methods?

Liber8 Recruitment Poster

A fair decision can’t be made without hearing both sides, so if you haven’t already, check out the recruitment video and manifesto on their website, Liber8.com.

Let’s take a look at the members of Liber8 to understand what drives them.

Edouard Kagame (Tony Amendola - IMDb) authored Liber8’s manifesto. He is the oldest of the time travelers and the only to remember the world before the corporations took over. Though his temperament has softened over time, he has always rebelled against what he feels are injustices.

Travis Verta (Roger Cross - IMDb) was handpicked from the military to become a genetically-enhanced super-soldier, a remorseless killing machine that carries out any and all orders. Now free of the corporate military’s shackles, he believes following Kagame will allow him the revenge he needs.

Roger Cross as Travis Verta

Matthew Kellog (Stephen Lobo - IMDb, Twitter) is an expert manipulator. Whether in the relative freedom of a corporate job or in prison for abusing his position for his own gain, he can charm almost anyone into doing his bidding. Whenever he’s around, people can never be sure if their decisions are really their own.

Stephen Lobo as Matthew Kellog

Sonya Valentine (Lexa Doig - IMDb, Twitter) served as a research scientist for the corporate military. She was the architect of the super-soldier program, but saw Travis as more than just a test subject. When the decision was made to shut down the program, she turned against the corporate world and joined Liber8 with Travis.

Lexa Doig as Sonya Valentine

Lucas Ingram (Omari Newton - IMDb, Twitter) worked to develop time travel for the corporate military at Alec Sadler’s company SadTech. When he discovered it would be used for evil purposes, he was accused of being a traitor. Unable to defend the accusation and fearing for his life, he felt his only option was to switch sides.

Curtis Chen (Terry Chen - IMDb, Twitter) feels he was unfairly passed over for the super-soldier program and aims to prove he is every bit as dangerous as Travis. He is a true believer in Liber8’s mission, and he makes no effort to hide his distrust of Kellog.

Terry Chen as Curtis Chen, Luvia Petersen as Jasmine Garza

Jasmine Garza (Luvia Petersen - IMDb, Twitter) was captured by the corporate military while serving as a paramilitary solider and tortured for 3 years. She has both physical and mental scars that may never heal from the experience.

Stefan Jaworski (Mike Dopud - IMDb, Twitter) is another former military member. He has a look and an attitude that announces to everyone that he is not someone to be crossed. Jaworski has no reservations about being the first to strike in a fight and is deadly at close-range or at a distance.

Liber8 admits it’s responsibility in the deaths of thousands. No one with any morality can look at Liber8’s actions and say what they do is okay, but what they’re fighting for may just be exactly what we have.

Over the course of the first season of Continuum, I expect several times where we will disagree with how Liber8 accomplishes it’s goals while at the same time feeling a certain amount of relief each time they succeed. Could they even win over Kiera?

Continuum 3-minute sneak peek

An Introduction to Continuum

It’s 2077 in Vancouver. Corporations no longer influence government, they ARE the government. Everyday life changed so gradually, few noticed as many rights and freedoms were limited or discarded. Still, life goes on for people in the new normal. Welcome to Continuum.

Vancouver 2012 and 2077

The series centers on CPS (City Protective Services) Protector Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols - IMDb, Twitter). She takes pride in her work in law enforcement, while maintaining a happy home life with her husband Greg and son Sam.

When we first meet her, Kiera is part of the team that apprehends the leader of a terrorist group called Liber8. 6 months later, she is set to supervise the execution of several Liber8 members when the unimaginable happens - inside the execution chamber, the terrorists cause a rift in time, unexpectedly pulling Kiera with them to 2012, leaving behind her family and the life she knows.

Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols) and Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen)

Kiera learns where (and when) she is with the help of 17-year-old computer genius Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen - IMDb, Twitter). Alec created the technology she uses as a CPS Protector and is “patched into” Kiera at all times, able to talk to her and see what she sees. In an awkward moment, she realizes how this isn’t always a good thing, possibly her first major step in understanding how the reality of 2077 isn’t as ideal as she thought. As the only person on her side that knows Kiera is from the future, Alec’s assistance will be vital in helping her to solve crimes and navigate the world as it exists in 2012.

Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster)

Kiera soon meets and is teamed up with Vancouver Police Detective Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster - IMDbTwitter) to help track down and capture the terrorists now loose in 2012. Carlos grew up in poverty and hates the financial inequality he sees in the world. He is a perfect complement to Kiera, who is more familiar with the other side of life. The two maintain an unusual working relationship - Carlos finds her attractive but mysterious and is unable to completely trust her, while Kiera is forced to lie about who she is, where she’s from and how she knows so much about the terrorists in order to keep her time-travelling secret.

Tomorrow, more information about the Liber8 movement and it’s members. Their methods may be wrong, but is their mission?
